ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Toronto right-hander Drew Hutchison makes his first big- league appearance since June 2012 on Tuesday night when the Blue Jays visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the second test of a four-game season-opening series at Tropicana Field. A native of nearby Lakeland, Fla., Hutchison was 5-3 in 11 appearances with the Blue Jays two seasons ago before an elbow injury shelved him for the remainder of the schedule and ultimately prompted ligament-replacement surgery that scrapped his entire 2013 season on the major-league level. He made 10 appearances across three minor-league levels in the Blue Jays organization last year and was 0-4 with a 4.81 earned run average in 35 1/3 innings, then was 1-1 in four spring-training starts this year while posting a 1.50 ERA across 15 innings. In one career meeting against the Rays, Hutchison was tagged for seven hits and six runs in four innings of an 8-5 loss at Tropicana Field on May 22, 2012. "I just think he looks stronger, his bodys filled out even more," Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker said. "I think hes coming into his own. Hes more mature. I just cant get over how he carries himself. Hes actually a young leader on this team." The Rays will oppose him with right-hander Alex Cobb, whos won 11 games in each of his first two big-league seasons. The Boston native was a fourth-round pick of the Rays in the 2006 draft and initially reached the majors at the tail end of 2011, when he made nine starts and won three games while posting a 3.42 ERA. He went 11-9 in 23 starts in 2012 and 11-3 in 22 outings last season, while holding batters to averages of .254 and .228, respectively. Cobb is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in two career starts against the Blue Jays, whove managed eight hits and struck out nine times in 13 1/3 innings. On Monday, in a matchup of the 2012 Cy Young winners, David Price outdueled R.A. Dickey and the Rays took down the Blue Jays, 9-2. Price (1-0) threw seven scoreless innings before giving up a two-run homer to Erik Kratz in the top of the eighth. The 2012 AL Cy Young winner finished with six strikeouts, allowing six hits and one walk in 7 1/3 innings. Reigning AL Rookie of the Year Wil Myers went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in his first Opening Day start for Tampa Bay. Matt Joyce drove in three runs while going 2-for-2 with a double and Evan Longoria and James Loney picked up an RBI apiece. The 2012 NL Cy Young winner, Dickey (0-1) lasted five innings, getting knocked around for six runs and five hits while walking six and fanning four. Kratz was the lone bright spot for Toronto, smacking a two-run homer on the first and only pitch he saw. Tampa won 11 of its 19 matchups with the Blue Jays last season. In fact, Toronto hasnt won a series at Tropicana Field since April 6-8, 2007, with Tampa Bay going 19-0-1 in series play since then. The Rays 148 wins over the Jays and their 84 wins at Tropicana Field are their most against any opponent. Clearance Shoes Online Australia . Coach Peter DeBoers No. 1 goaltender will be back in net tonight when New Jersey completes a four-game Canadian road trip against Schneiders former team, the Vancouver Canucks, who have also been among the NHLs best offensive clubs. Catch all the action on TSN Radio 1040 starting at 5pm pt. The Canucks offense continued to produce with Sundays 4-1 home win over Chicago. Theyre second among West teams with 3.00 goals per game, up from last seasons 2.33 mark that ranked last in the conference. We do all the little things you have to do to be successful, left wing Daniel Sedin told the teams official website. Everyone is buying in. Its a lot of fun when you can do that. No one feels the pressure to score each and every game, but everyone knows they can do it. Schneider ceded starting responsibility to Scott Clemmensen for the first time this season Saturday, and the Devils (9-9-3) suffered a 5-4 shootout loss to Calgary - the only West team scoring more than Vancouver. New Jersey is 3-6-1 with 2.00 goals per game over the last three weeks after averaging 2.91 during a 6-3-2 start, but the latest loss had more to do with being unable to hold a series of two-goal leads. The Devils led 2-0 after the first period, 3-1 after the second and 4-2 midway through the third but surrendered two goals in the final 2 1/2 minutes. Its disappointing, DeBoer told the teams official Twitter feed. Thats a game we shouldve won. I thought we had a dozen chances to extend the lead. Schneider has been quite strong lately with a 1.41 goals-against average and two shutouts over a 3-2-0 stretch. This would be his third matchup with Vancouver, where he spent his first five seasons, after suffering losses in overtime and a shootout in October 2013 with a 2.36 GAA. Those games extended the Canucks current winning streak in the series to five, on which theyve allowed just seven goals. Vancouver (14-6-1) was in line with that kind of defensive effort against the Blackhawks, while Jannik Hansen had the firsst three-goal game of his career.dddddddddddd Hansen has scored in three straight games, and his eight goals overall put him halfway to his top single-season total. We strive this year to make it a four-line team, Hansen said. Its not a matter of one, two, three, four. Everyone knows (Daniel and Henrik Sedin) are going to get their matchup every night. After that its up to the nine other guys to supply the secondary scoring. As long as we can do that weve got a chance to win games. Newcomer Radim Vrbata also scored and has four goals in three games while playing with the Sedins. Vrbata leads the team with 10 goals and has 13 points in his last 10 games against New Jersey. Fellow newcomer Ryan Miller hasnt been quite as effective with a 2.63 GAA, though he has a league-best 13-3-0 record among No. 1 goaltenders thanks greatly to Vancouvers consistent scoring. Hes been considerably better in his last 11 matchups against New Jersey, going 7-2-2 with a 1.54 GAA. Neither goalie will be facing a particularly effective power play. Vancouver is in a 2-for-20 slump, and New Jersey is 3 for 27 in its last 10. The Devils penalty kill, however, has thrived with a 25-for-26 mark over their past six. Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis (lower-body injury) sat out Sunday, while forward Alexandre Burrows (upper body) returns tonight.
